Lizard Bites and Street Riots

Travel Emergencies and Your Health, Safety and Security

Thursday, February 1, 2018
Chevy Chase Village Hall
7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Dr. Joyce Johnson will present a lively and entertaining presentation on traveler’s health and safety - interactive and complete with prizes for everyone!

The presentation will be based on the award-winning book she co-authored, Lizard Bites and Street Riots, Travel Emergencies and your Health, Safety and Security. Dr. Johnson’s practical discussion will address the basics of:

  • Staying healthy both close to home and while traveling (Did you know a rabid fox was recently captured near the Village?)
  • Travel insurance (Did you know most travel insurance doesn’t include evacuation? Also, that Medicare doesn’t cover medical expenses outside the US?)
  • Safety and security -  street riots to hurricanes (And how to survive “survival training” in Antarctica!)

Rear Admiral Joyce Johnson, DO, USPHS (ret) is a physician with a breadth of global public health experience on all seven continents.  She has particular interests in third world and polar regions, and public health and disaster relief.  Prior to her retirement, RADM Johnson’s last active duty military assignment was the “surgeon general” of the U.S. Coast Guard.  She is a professor (clinical and adjunct) at Georgetown University, as well as a prolific writer and popular speaker.

Wine and cheese reception following presentation.
Please come join your neighbors for some nibbles, drinks and conversation at the Village Hall.  A chance to unwind, chat, see friends and make new ones. If you have any questions please contact Mike Marsh (mrm12@ntrs.com)
