Annual Holiday Toy DriveSunday, December 11Help make the holidays brighter for those in need by donating NEW, unwrapped toys at the Village Hall on Sunday, December 11, from 10:00am -1:00pm. Donations will benefit The National Center for Children and Families in Bethesda. Please consider dolls, scooters, science kits, interactive stuffed animals, arts & crafts, earbuds/airpods, action figures, board games, cold weather gear, or gift cards.
Thanks to Village resident India Ingersoll for coordinating the drive! If you are interested in volunteering to help with the collection or transportation of items that day, please ask for Ms. Ingersoll during the event.

Holiday FundNot Too Late to Donate
Thank you to the many Village residents who have so generously donated to this year’s Chevy Chase Village Employees’ Holiday Fund. If you are interested in donating and have not yet done so, it is not too late.
Residents are welcome to make a contribution by check payable to the “Chevy Chase Village Employees’ Holiday Fund” for drop-off or by mail to the Village Hall (5906 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD 20815).
Residents may use their own judgment in handling gratuities for non-employee service providers, such as the crews that collect the refuse and recycling.

Gift Outside the Box
The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection and its partners encourage residents to “gift outside the box” to reduce, save energy, and build a strong local economy. For example: - Buy local
- Give experiences, such as online classes or a visit to Brookside Gardens
- Give greener, such something from a Certified Green Business.
- Give back. Volunteer your time, give blood, or with friends, prepare and give a meal to hospital front-line workers.
- Reduce, reuse, recycle. Give used items you already have or buy from Habitat for Humanity or similar organizations. Give something you’ve made. Give an item that can be used again and again, such as a coffee mug or lunch bag.

Leaf Collection Update
This week, Public Works began collecting from properties on the WEST side of Connecticut Avenue, working from north to south. Public Works will continue collecting from Grafton Street and streets to the south of Grafton beginning on Monday, December 12. Weather dependent, crews should complete collection from the WEST side and return to the EAST side of the Village by the middle of next week. Next week, Public Works will also focus on yard waste (including pumpkins) collection from both sides of the Village.
As we have reported, our annual leaf collection has been delayed because one of the tow-behind vacuums used for leaf collection broke down, and the replacement unit’s delivery was delayed. We are aiming to get back on schedule (once weekly collection) within the next two weeks.
In the interim, please remember that leaf piles should NEVER be placed in the roadway:

Cardboard Box Disposal
With the arrival of holiday packages, please remember that cardboard boxes should be recycled. In order for the boxes to be recycled, all non-paper packing materials must be removed, and the boxes should be flattened. Flattened boxes that are approximately less than the size of a 13” television set should be placed with your paper recycling. Five or more flattened boxes should be bundled when left for recycling. Soiled cardboard boxes should be placed in your regular trash.
As a reminder, recycling is collected from homes located WEST of Connecticut Avenue on Wednesdays, and from homes located EAST of Connecticut Avenue on Thursdays.

Montgomery County Recreation Center
Passes will be Free in 2023
Montgomery County Recreation fitness passes will be free for Montgomery County residents in 2023. Starting Jan. 3, 2023, the free pass will provide access to fully equipped fitness rooms, open gym (drop-in) activities, and game rooms at any recreation center during regularly scheduled hours. This membership makes it easy for county residents to workout close to home, near their office, or at any center location that is convenient for them. Beginning Jan. 3, 2023, residents can register for the fitness pass in-person at the centers. Proof of residency (a valid photo ID with an address or a photo ID with a current utility bill) must be provided by County residents to receive the free pass. Non-County residents can purchase a pass at a price of $20 for one month, $80 for six months and $150 for one year. Visit the website for more information. Montgomery County Executive Elrich to Hold Hybrid Forums to Seek Input on
FY2024 Operating Budget
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, the County’s regional services offices and community partners will host hybrid forums in November and December to seek input on the Fiscal Year 2024 Operating Budget. Residents can attend the forums in person or view them via the internet.
The County is in the early stages of formulating the FY24 operating budget. County Executive Elrich is required to submit a recommended budget to the County Council by March 15. The Council will then have two months to review the budget. It must adopt a final budget no later than June 1. The FY24 operating budget will go into effect on July 1.
The forums will be televised live on the County cable station County Cable Montgomery (CCM), which can be seen on Comcast (Channel 6 and High-Definition Channel 996), RCN (Channel 6 and HD 1056) and Verizon (Channel 30). The forums also will be available on cable channels Takoma Park City TV (Channel 13), Montgomery Municipal (Channel 16, 997 Comcast), Corona Montgomery (Channel 10) and Montgomery Community Media (Channel 21).

Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers are
Banned in the VillageThe Village’s ban is year-round. Recently, we learned that the Town of Chevy Chase adopted an ordinance that bans gas leaf blowers EXCEPT during the autumn months. Some landscape crews have mistakenly assumed that this seasonal exemption applies in the Village—WHICH IT DOES NOT.
The Village ordinance prohibits the use of gas leaf blowers every day of the year.
Please remind your contractor that the ban on gas-powered leaf blowers applies year-round in Chevy Chase Village.
Maximum noise limits still apply to battery-powered blowers. Residents and landscapers are reminded that Montgomery County’s Noise Ordinance applies to the use of battery-powered and electric leaf blowers. The county’s Noise Ordinance states that “a person must not...use a leaf blower at any time that has an average sound level exceeding 70 dBA at a distance of 50 feet.” Additionally, the simultaneous use of multiple leaf blowers that are compliant with the 70 dBA limit can create noise of a sufficient level to qualify as a violation and/or noise disturbance.

COVID Vaccines, Testing, and MasksEveryone 12 and Older Eligible for
Bivalent Booster Shot
Single-dose bivalent boosters for COVID-19 are now widely available. Federal and state health officials recommend that everyone 12 and older get this updated shot from Pfizer for individuals age 12 years and older and from Moderna for individuals age 18 years and older.
Find a vaccine provider at covidvax.maryland.gov or call 1-855-MDGOVAX (1-855-634-6829) to make an appointment.
The Village continues to provide rapid (antigen) test kits and N95 masks. Village residents may stop by the Village office to pick-up up masks and test kits. Read more about mask and test distribution at the Village Hall and other means of accessing COVID-19 tests.
The rapid COVID test kits distributed by the Village are manufactured by iHealth. To confirm the applicable expiration date for your test kit, visit https://ihealthlabs.com/pages/news.
Montgomery County offers free COVID-19 testing and urges those doing at-home tests to report their results.

Join The Compost Crew Today!
The food-waste collection program in Chevy Chase Village continues to grow as the community looks for more ways to be conscientious consumers. Currently, over 95 Village households are recycling their food-waste with Compost Crew. As a result of increased participation, the price per household for Compost Crew’s convenient food-waste collection is $16 per month for the standard size bin--a 20% savings from the previous cost. The monthly cost for the larger 12-gallon bins is $20/month.

Section 3 Farmers Market
Located at Taylor Street and Brookville Road with ample parking at the rear of the La Ferme restaurant, the market features locally sourced organic products.
Winter Hours: The market is open on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (rain or shine). The Market has designated 9:00-9:30 a.m. for vulnerable customers, then 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. for all!
The Farmers Market will be closed Christmas (12/24) weekend, but otherwise will remain open every Saturday into March.
Don’t forget to bring a $5 (or more!) donation to support Section 3’s “$5 for Food” donation drive benefiting the Capital Area Food Bank.
