Thrive Montgomery 2050 Racial Equity & Social Justice Community ForumAugust 16 at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom
The Montgomery County Council invites residents to join the Thrive 2050 Racial Equity and Social Justice Community Forum on Tuesday, August 16 at 6:30 p.m.
The forum, to be conducted on Zoom and led by a team of consultants at Nspiregreen, will gather community input to better understand how past land use policies have impacted vulnerable and historically marginalized communities in Montgomery County and provide recommendations on how future policies and planning efforts can be more just and equitable. Register for the Community Forum Please also consider responding to the Thrive 2050 community survey. The survey, which will remain open for community feedback until August 19, 2022, will be used to inform a racial equity and social justice review of Thrive 2050 and the development of a new racial equity and social justice chapter for the plan. Feedback from these engagement activities will assess the strengths and weaknesses of the current planning process and develop new recommendations on how to improve Thrive 2050, centering on issues of racial equity and social justice to influence future land use, transportation, social and economic decisions. What is Thrive Montgomery 2050? Thrive Montgomery 2050 is a framework to guide land use planning for housing, economic development, equity, transportation, environmental sustainability and more for the next three decades in Montgomery County. Please visit the Council’s Thrive 2050 website for a summary and copy of the draft Plan. Additional details and background on the Plan are available at the Montgomery Planning Department’s Thrive Montgomery 2050 website.

National Suicide Prevention and Veterans’ Crisis Hotline: 988Beginning July 16, the United States will have a new emergency number -- 988 -- for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis or considering suicide. Calling that number connects the caller to professionals who can help avert a crisis. In 2020, the FCC ordered all telecom providers to make every land line, cell phone, and every voice-over internet device in the United States capable of using the number 988 by July 16, 2022. The National Suicide Hotline Designation Act of 2020 established by law the number ‘988’ as the new nationwide suicide prevention lifeline and veterans’ crisis line phone number. Village Resident Offering Battery-Power Mower Repair Assistance
Ollie Davidson (Oliver Street), a member of the Village’s Environment & Energy Committee, has offered to help neighbors who have a battery-powered mower that may not be in good working condition. As the Village moves toward becoming a quieter neighborhood with the now in effect ban on the use of gas-powered blowers, Ollie is offering to look at any non-working battery mower to identify if it can be (easily) rehabilitated. If so, he can return it to the resident or offer the rehabbed machine to a small lawn service operator.
If you would like some assistance with your old battery-powered mower, Ollie is happy to discuss your options (this offer does not include gas-powered mowers). If you are interested, please reach out to Ollie Davidson directly at PPPartners@comcast.net.

COVID Testing, Masks, and VaccinesTesting and Masks The Village continues to provide rapid (antigen) test kits and N95 masks. Village residents may stop by the Village office to pick-up up masks and test kits. Read more about the mask and test distribution at the Village Hall and other means of accessing COVID-19 tests.

Montgomery County offers free COVID-19 testing and urges those doing at-home tests to report their results.

To learn more, click here to visit the FDA website.
COVID-19 vaccinations for individuals ages 5 and up remain available across the state and county.

Residents and landscapers are reminded that ALL blowers operated within the Village remain subject to Montgomery County’s Noise Ordinance. The county’s Noise Ordinance states that “a person must not...use a leaf blower at any time that has an average sound level exceeding 70 dBA at a distance of 50 feet.” Additionally, the simultaneous use of multiple leaf blowers that are compliant with the 70 bDA limit can create noise of a sufficient level to qualify as a violation and/or noise disturbance. Residents are responsible for discussing these restrictions with their yard maintenance crews. Click here for more information.
