Early Morning Indecent Exposure Incident on
Connecticut Avenue SidewalkMale suspect and female victim were walking in opposite
directions south of BradleyAt 6:30 in the morning on Tuesday, May 3, Village Police dispatch received a call from a woman who stated that, 15 minutes earlier, she was the victim of an indecent exposure.
The woman stated that, at about 6:15 a.m., she was on her morning walk and heading south on the sidewalk on the west side of Connecticut Avenue between Bradley Lane and W. Newlands Street. She said that a man walked past her heading in the opposite direction, and shortly after he passed her, he got her attention by asking her where the nearest store was; he added that he was lost and didn’t have his phone with him. When the victim turned around to respond to the man, she saw that he had pulled his pants down to expose his genitals to her. She immediately turned away, left the area and called the police as soon as she got home. The suspect was last seen on foot headed north towards Bradley Lane.
The suspect is described as a black male in his early 40's, either bald or hair that is closely-cropped, muscular build, wearing black sweat pants, black shirt, blue surgical face mask, and possibly wearing sandals.

Stormwater Management Resources for Residents Information Compiled by
the Town of Somerset’s Stormwater Committee
The Town of Somerset’s Stormwater Study Committee has created a Green Infrastructure Guide to assist their residents with identifying approaches to stormwater management that protects, restores, or mimics the natural water cycle by filtering and absorbing stormwater where it falls. Somerset has graciously offered for Chevy Chase Village residents to access this guide.
The guide identifies the different types of green infrastructure—such as conservation landscaping, bioretention practices, French drains, permeable pavers, drywells, rain barrels and gardens, and water-loving landscaping—and provides resources for their installation and maintenance.

Pepco Finishing Line Clearance Work
Pepco’s tree contractor, Asplundh, continues to prune trees away from power lines in the Village. The following blocks are included in this round of pruning: - Brookville Road (between Bradley La. and Oxford St.)

- Primrose Street (between Brookville Rd. and Western Ave.)
- Oxford Street (between Broad Branch Rd. and Quincy Street)
- Summerfield Road
- Broad Branch Road
- Newlands Street (between Brookville and Broad Branch Rds.)

Pepco has indicated that they have mailed notices to all customers along the feeder lines where trees are scheduled for pruning and Village arborist Dr. Tolbert Feather has reviewed the proposed work.

Bike Donation and Used Sports Equipment
Donation Event at the Village Hall Friday, May 13 & Saturday, May 14The Environment and Energy Commission will be hosting a used bike and sporting equipment collection at the Village Hall. If you're interested in donating a bike or equipment, stop by the Village Hall during event hours (see event flier for additional details).
Donated bikes will go to Bikes for the World (https://bikesfortheworld.org/), whose mission is to make affordable, good quality used bicycles available to low-income people in developing countries. If you donate a bike, the organization asks you to consider a modest donation of $10 per bike to help offset the cost of transport.
Used sports equipment will go to Leveling the Playing Field (https://www.levelingtheplayingfield.org/). LPF redistributes equipment to expand access and equity within youth sports and recreation programs in under-resourced communities. Click here for a list of acceptable items.

Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 20, 2022. Join fellow bikers at nearly 100 pit stops in DC, MD, and VA for this FREE event. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is featuring a ‘bicycle swag bag’ contest during the month of May. Bike riders who want to enter the contest post a picture on social media of themselves enjoying their bike ride in the county. (Those who don't use social media can email their photos to MCDOT.) Drawings will be held weekly for a bike swag bag. The first winner will be announced on Monday, May 9. On Bike to Work Day, there will be six pit stops where bikers can get refreshments in Bethesda, North Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Rockville and Silver Spring. Click here for more information.

Red Cross Blood Drive(Pre-Registration Required)Tuesday, June 21 from 1:00-6:00pmThe American Red Cross has declared a "National Blood Crisis" and is facing its worst blood shortage in over a decade. Many centers have only one day's worth of blood stocks to offer hospitals. The American Red Cross will be at the Chevy Chase Village Hall to accept your life saving blood donation on Tuesday, June 21 from 1:00-6:00pm. Visit the Red Cross website to pre-register for this event with the Sponsor ID: CHEVYCHASEVILLAGE or call 1-800-733-2767 to schedule your appointment. The Red Cross is offering an additional incentive of a $5 e-gift card to donors during the month of June. The goal for this blood drive is 35 pints, which can potentially save 105 lives. “$5 for Food” Donation Drive
Benefiting the Capital Area Food Bank
The Farmers Market in Section 3 re-opens for the season on Saturday, May 7th. Located at Taylor St. and Brookville Rd. with ample parking at La Ferme restaurant, the market features locally sourced organic products.
The market will be open on Saturdays starting May 7, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (rain or shine). The Market has designated 8:00-8:30am for vulnerable customers, then 8:30am-1:00pm for everyone.
NOTE: If you are driving to the Farmers Market, please park in the La Ferme parking lot and NOT by the Brookville Market to leave sufficient parking for the retail shops along Brookville Rd. Click here for more information.

Alert Your Landscapers:
Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers are
Banned in the VillageA ban on the use of gas-powered leaf blowers went into effect January 1, 2022.
Residents and landscapers are reminded that ALL blowers operated within the Village remain subject to Montgomery County’s Noise Ordinance. The county’s Noise Ordinance states that “a person must not...use a leaf blower at any time that has an average sound level exceeding 70 dBA at a distance of 50 feet.” Additionally, the simultaneous use of multiple leaf blowers that are compliant with the 70 bDA limit can create noise of a sufficient level to qualify as a violation and/or noise disturbance.

Follow-Up Regarding Maryland Department of Transportation's "Needs Analysis" Report
for Connecticut AvenueReport Includes What Could Be
Significant Changes Along the Corridor
The District 18 General Assembly Delegation hosted two virtual community meetings regarding the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration’s (SHA) analysis of Connecticut Avenue—MD Route 185. The “Needs Analysis” report includes short- and long-term recommendations to “balance the needs” of drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians along the corridor. In the long-term, the report outlines significant changes to Connecticut Avenue, south of East-West Highway, including an operational evaluation to determine if elimination of a travel lane in either direction is suitable to provide space for buffered bike lanes, widening of the remaining two travel lanes in each direction, and dedicated left-turn lanes.
The meetings included an introduction from District 18 elected officials, followed by a presentation from SHA representatives and a Q&A where residents were able to ask questions and provide feedback.

STOP! Do you have a permit??
Spring is a great time to refresh and enhance your yard, and the past two years have highlighted the importance of outdoor spaces as an extension of our homes for entertaining and enjoyment. But before you begin that spring project, ensure you have obtained the necessary permits from the Village (and, when applicable, Montgomery County and the Historic Preservation Commission).
When is a Building Permit required? For the installation, replacement or expansion of the following:
- Air conditioners, generators and geothermal systems
- Garages, accessory buildings and sheds (of any size)
- Decks, patios and terraces
- Outdoor kitchens and fireplaces
- Fences, gates and walls
- Driveways and walkways
- Lampposts, handrails and freestanding electric vehicle charging stations
- Permanently anchored play equipment
- Swimming pools and outdoor therapeutic baths
- Landscape feature items such as fountains, trellises, and arbors
- Regrading and any work that alters the existing flow of water on a property

Expiration Dates ExtendedThe Village has been distributing free at-home rapid Covid test kits manufactured by iHealth. If you have at-home rapid test kits from iHealth, the FDA has extended the expiration date printed on the box by three months. EX: If your kit has an expiration date in June, they are now good until September.

Join The Compost Crew Today!
The food-waste collection program in Chevy Chase Village continues to grow as the community looks for more ways to be conscientious consumers. Currently, over 80 Village households are recycling their food-waste with Compost Crew. As a result of increased participation, the price per household for Compost Crew’s convenient food-waste collection is $16 per month for the standard size bin--a 20% savings from the previous cost. The monthly cost for the larger 12-gallon bins is $20/month.

Second dose COVID-19 boosters are now approved for individuals over the age of 50 and immunocompromised people who have received their first booster at least 4 months ago. COVID-19 vaccinations for individuals age 5 and up remain available across the state and county. Montgomery County offers free COVID-19 testing and urges those doing at-home tests to report their results.
