Contributions Still Welcome to the Village's Employee Holiday Fund Online Payment Portal DisabledWhile we were excited to introduce an option for residents to make online contributions by credit card, we were forced to disable the online site due to some technical issues that could not be resolved in time for this year’s contribution. We will work with the payment vendor in hopes of launching an improved system for the holiday season in 2022! Residents are welcome to make their contribution by check payable to the “Chevy Chase Village Employees’ Holiday Fund” for drop-off or by mail to the Village Hall (5906 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD 20815). It is not too late to donate! Although donations were requested by December 10, any donations received after December 10 will be provided to the staff in a second distribution in mid-January. Holiday Toy Drive at the Village HallSunday December 12, noon to 2:00 p.m.Village resident volunteers will be collecting toys and games on Sunday, December 12 from noon until 2:00 p.m. to benefit the National Center for Children and Families, a local organization that provides a variety of programs to benefit needy children and families in our region. Bins will be located on the main entrance side of the Village Hall near the bench along the sidewalk where unwrapped donations can be dropped off. Notice of Public Hearing & Possible Board Action The Chevy Chase Village Board of Managers will convene a virtual open session on Monday, December 13, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. to hold a public hearing to consider possible adoption of: Resolution No. 11-01-21, Charter Amendment No. 21-1: A Resolution to Amend Section 301, Registration, Nominations and Elections, of the Chevy Chase Village Charter
This resolution is enacted to enable distribution of ballots by mail, and voting in person, by deposit to a designated drop box, or in person on the day of the election, and includes amendments to change the date on which elections are held, change the date by which a petition for candidacy must be filed and the extension date for filing, authorize an election ballot to be mailed to all registered voters in the Village, allow the ballots to be voted through the mail, deposited in a drop box, or submitted in person on the day of the election, set the date by which a ballot must be received, and to make conforming changes. Copies of the draft Resolution may be obtained at the Chevy Chase Village Office between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, you may download a copy at www.chevychasevillagemd.gov or you may submit a request to the Village office for the draft Resolution to be mailed to you. Presentation on Attainable Housing Strategies InitiativeMonday, December 13, 7-8:30 p.m. On December 13, Montgomery County Planning invites the community to learn more about the Planning Board’s Attainable Housing Strategies recommendations at a virtual meeting on Microsoft Teams, 7-8:30 pm. Planning Staff will hold a Q&A session after the presentation. RSVPs are required.
The virtual event follows the Planning Board’s sixth Attainable Housing Strategies work session held on December 9, 2021. During the session, Montgomery Planning staff presented the draft Attainable Housing Strategies final report to the Board. The draft report includes a summary of the Board’s recommendations from previous work sessions, as well as technical appendices that provide further background on how the Board reached these decisions with Planning staff analysis. Community members can watch the work session online on the Planning Board’s website. The community is invited to submit written comments to the Planning Board via email at mcp-chair@mncppc-mc.org. The Attainable Housing Strategies initiative is meant to address Montgomery County’s serious housing shortage, especially affordable housing, in light of an expected 200,000 additional residents by 2050. The initiative includes proposed Priority Housing Districts, in which quadplexes would be allowed and parking requirements would be reduced. These areas are defined using a straight-line buffer of 1-mile from Red line, Purple Line, and MARC stations, plus 500 ft from a BRT Corridor plus River Road and Connecticut Avenue. The Planning Department has created an Interactive Tool to assist residents with understanding the effect that the proposed initiatives could have in their community. The Planning Board will hold its seventh work session on January 27, 2022. This session will focus on the specific zoning modifications that would implement the recommendations identified in the report. This will be included as an additional appendix. Planning staff will also provide an appendix on how other jurisdictions have addressed similar efforts before the report is finalized. The final report will be transmitted to the Montgomery County Council in early 2022 following final County Council action on Thrive Montgomery 2050

Thrive Montgomery 2050Council Schedules Second Listening Session for December 14 Thrive Montgomery 2050 (or “Thrive” for short) is Montgomery County’s general plan update. It is the blueprint for how and where the county will grow over the next 30+ years. On its own, Thrive does not modify any laws, but it sets the policy agendas for the County Council and County Planning Department, and will impact all future Master & Sector Plans. The Council’s Planning, Housing and Economic Development (PHED) Committee made numerous changes to the draft plan during their several month review. The PHED committee’s draft was released to the full council, for its consideration. Prior to a formal review, the council has scheduled listening sessions to hear from the public. The first session was held on November 30 and a recording is available online.
Due to the overwhelming number of people who signed up for the initial session, the council has scheduled a second Listening Session for Tuesday, December 14 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Although the speaker list has been closed for the December 14 session, residents who want to provide testimony on the Thrive Montgomery 2050 may still do so in one of the following ways: - Upload written, audio or video testimony online at: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/COUNCIL/PHSignUp.html

The Environment and Energy Committee of Chevy Chase Village would like to make residents aware of a webinar on transitioning away from gas-powered leaf blowers. Related to the upcoming Chevy Chase Village ban on these blowers, tune in to hear from a panel of municipal and government leaders making successful transitions away from gas-powered land care. Discover what it takes to make change happen, the challenges and benefits, the importance of collaboration and stakeholder engagement. Gift Outside the BoxThe Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection and its partners encourage residents to “gift outside the box” to reduce, save energy, and build a strong local economy. For example: - Buy local
- Give experiences, such as online classes or a visit to Brookside Gardens
- Give greener, such something from a Certified Green Business.
- Give back. Volunteer your time, give blood, or with friends, prepare and give a meal to hospital front-line workers.
- Reduce, reuse, recycle. Give used items you already have or buy from Habitat for Humanity or similar organizations. Give something you’ve made. Give an item that can be used again and again, such as a coffee mug or lunch bag.

Consider Donating Used Sports EquipmentAs we move into the season of giving and gratitude, please consider putting aside your gently used, unwanted and/or outgrown sports equipment for a collection drive the CCV E&E committee will be hosting in in early 2022, to aid the efforts at Leveling the Playing Field in Silver Spring, MD. This non-profit provides sports equipment to kids and organizations in need across the region.

2021 Annual Leaf Collection InformationNOTE: Please assist the leaf collection by ensuring that vehicles belonging to you, others in your household and your contractors are not blocking the leaf piles. With many continuing to work from home, we are seeing more vehicles parked on the street blocking access to leaf piles which prevents our crews from accessing the leaves for collection. Thank you for your cooperation! The Public Works Department’s yearly leaf collection effort has begun and will continue as often as needed through December. Each week, the leaf truck on the west side of the Village will begin on West Melrose Street and work south ending on Western Avenue; and the leaf truck on the east side will begin on East Irving Street working north and ending on Quincy Street. Residents on Bradley Lane are required to bag their leaves before placing them at the roadside, unless they have arranged for a loose leaf pick-up (email ccv@montgomerycountymd.gov for more information). Bradley Lane leaf bags will be collected throughout the week, as part of your normal yard waste collections. If you bag your leaves, they must be placed in paper bags.
Public Works will not pick up leaves that have been bagged in plastic. Keep leaves OUT OF THE STREET! Rake leaves as close to the curb as possible without putting them in the roadway gutter. Please inform your landscape crews of this requirement. Should it rain, leaves piled in the gutter will dam the water causing it to pond. Avoid boxing in piles of leaves between cars both for easier accessibility for the collection crews and safety for your vehicles.

Work with Your Landscaper to Operate Leaf Blowers Legally;Ban on Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers goes into effect January 1, 2022 A ban on the use of gas-powered leaf blowers will go into effect on January 1, 2022. The Village Board approved the ban in December 2019 citing the adverse environmental, human health (principally for the equipment operator) and quality of life impacts resulting from the use of gas-powered leaf blowers. These impacts were highlighted in a report from the Village Environment & Energy Committee, dated August 15, 2019, which can be viewed on the committee’s page on the Village website.
A letter communicating the effective date of this ban and to explain the regulations was mailed in September to every Village household and a separate letter was sent to all landscapers on record with the Village. In the interim, residents and landscapers are reminded that all blowers operated within the Village remain subject to Montgomery County’s Noise Ordinance. The county’s Noise Ordinance states that “a person must not...use a leaf blower at any time that has an average sound level exceeding 70 dBA at a distance of 50 feet.” Additionally, the simultaneous use of multiple leaf blowers that are compliant with the 70 bDA limit can create noise of a sufficient level to qualify as a violation and/or noise disturbance.
If a blower seems loud, it may be in violation. Residents are encouraged to report blowers that are suspected to be in violation to the Village Communications Center to allow staff to follow-up with the contractor and property owner. First time confirmed violators will receive a warning and guidance for operating legally.
Residents are responsible for discussing these restrictions with your yard maintenance crews.

Updated: 12/10/2021 COVID-19 Vaccine InformationBooster Eligibility Expanded to 16 Years and Up (Pfizer only for 16- and 17-year-olds) COVID-19 vaccinations for individuals age 5 and up remain available across the state and county. Clinics are also providing third/booster doses for eligible individuals. UPDATE AS OF 12/9/2021: The Maryland Department of Health has issued a new bulletin (eff. 12/9/2021) directing all providers to administer upon request a booster dose of any FDA approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccine to individuals 18 years and older who completed a primary series of Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at least six months ago AND to administer upon request a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to individuals 16 and 17 years old who completed a primary series of Pfizer-BioNTech. Individuals who received a primary series of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine at least two months ago continue to be eligible for a booster dose. State health officials continue to strongly recommend that the following individuals get a booster shot as soon as possible:
Individuals age 65 years and older Individuals who live in long-term care settings, those who have underlying medical conditions, and those who work or live in high-risk settings or in communities with high transmission rates
The bulletin further emphasizes to providers that they may not turn away any individual requesting a booster dose. Marylanders Can Receive a Digital Version of their COVID-19 and Other Vaccination Records Marylanders who were vaccinated in the state can now receive a digital copy of their vaccination record on the website ImmuNet. This website makes it easier for those who have misplaced their COVID-19 vaccine records.
The website is free and secure to use and is used by healthcare providers in the state to maintain the vaccination records of Marylanders of all ages. Records for people who received their vaccination outside of the state are not included on the website.
To receive your vaccination records on the website, you’ll have to register and follow the directions to confirm your identity and then link your official vaccine records with your account. If your vaccination records appear incorrect, you should contact your healthcare provider.
The CDC does not currently have a database with COVID-19 vaccination records.

NEW HOURS! The Farmers Market in Section 3 is open through the third week in March 2022 (and will resume at the beginning of May 2022). Located at Taylor St. and Brookville Rd. with ample parking at La Ferme restaurant, the market features organic products sold in a COVID-compliant manner. Patrons must wear a mask, bring their own bag and pay by credit/debit card. The market is open on Saturdays from 8-8:30 a.m. for seniors and other vulnerable individuals and opens for all patrons from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (rain or shine).
NOTE: If you are driving to the Farmers Market, please park in the La Ferme parking lot and NOT by the Brookville Market to leave sufficient parking for the retail shops along Brookville Rd.

Join The Compost Crew Today! The food-waste collection program in Chevy Chase Village continues to grow as the community looks for more ways to be conscientious consumers. Currently, over 80 Village households are recycling their food-waste with Compost Crew. As a result of increased participation, the price per household for Compost Crew’s convenient food-waste collection is $16 per month for the standard size bin--a 20% savings from the previous cost. The monthly cost for the larger 12-gallon bins is $20/month.
