UPDATE ON VILLAGE BOARD ELECTION PROCEDURES
Absentee or Replacement Ballots.
Because the mailing of the ballots for the Board of Managers election was delayed for reasons beyond our control, replacement or absentee ballots will be immediately available to:
- residents who have not yet received their ballots, or
- residents who are out of town.
Eligible voters may come to the Village Hall at any time from now until 10:00 a.m. on Election Day, Saturday, May 1, and request a ballot packet from the on-duty Communications Clerk. Between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, ballot packets may be requested from the Election Supervisors who will be on-site on the main entry porch at the Village Hall.
Residents who are out of town may request an absentee ballot by emailing the Village Manager at shana.davis-cook@montgomerycountymd.gov, or by calling the Village Hall at 301-654-7300 and leaving a message for the Village Manager, who will follow-up with you directly. SUCH REQUESTS MUST BE RECEIVED BY NO LATER THAN 4:00 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28. The Village staff will then send ballot packets to out of town residents by overnight courier at the Village’s expense. In order to be counted, the completed, physical ballots must be returned in the completed secret ballot envelope to the Village Hall and received by no later than 3:00 p.m. on Election Day, Saturday, May 1. Out of town residents are responsible for returning their physical ballots to the Village Hall by 3:00 p.m. on May 1 and at their own expense. Ballots received after that time, or ballots received by fax, email, text, etc., will not be counted.
Residents under the age of 18.
While Montgomery County allows 16 and 17 year old residents to register to vote, they are not eligible to actually vote until they are 18. Moreover, the Village Charter provides that residents must be 18 years old to be qualified to vote. Accordingly, any ballots received from residents under the age of 18 will not be counted.
Reminder: Candidates Forum.
Residents will have an opportunity to participate in a forum and dialogue with the candidates for the 2021 Board of Managers’ election. The forum will be moderated by the Village’s Election Supervisors and will be held virtually.
