Tropical Storm Isaias Expected Monday Night Into Tuesday The Washington DC metro area, including Chevy Chase Village, is under a weather alert as Tropical Storm Isaias heads up the east coast, with rain showers and thunderstorms beginning this (August 4) evening between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. and worsening between 10:00 p.m. and midnight with heavy rain expected to continue through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4. Approximately 3-6 inches of rain are expected during this storm. The rainfall will be followed by heavy winds, with gusts expected between 39 and 74 MPH, which may result in downed trees and power lines. Residents are encouraged to check their downspouts and clear any drains on their property in advance of the rain. In the Event of a Power Outage If you lose power, please contact PEPCO directly at (877) 737-2662 and the Village Communications Center at (301) 654-7300. Residents should not assume that PEPCO knows you do not have power—every household that loses power should contact both PEPCO and the Village, which also allows us to monitor the scope of the outage.
In addition to its telephone call in number and website information, Pepco has introduced a mobile app which among provides updates to keep customers informed during a storm. Users can report outages, view outage maps, pay bills and access other services. Visit pepco.com/mobileapp to download the mobile app. Pepco has also added a new feature that allows customers to report a live outage by text via their mobile device. Registered Pepco customers can text “Out” to “48710”. Customers must first text “ADD OUTAGE” to “48710” from a phone linked to their account to sign up for the text service.
NEVER touch or drive over downed utility lines. All downed utility lines are to be treated as if they are live. At this time Refuse and Recycling collection will proceed as scheduled on Tuesday, August 5.
