Chevy Chase Village is Soliciting Applications for Outside Counsel

CHEVY CHASE VILLAGE IS SOLICITING APPLICATIONS FOR OUTSIDE COUNSEL BY SEPTEMBER 30, 2012

With the retirement of its outside counsel after more than three decades, Chevy Chase Village is soliciting applications from lawyers in private practice in Maryland who wish to be considered for the position of outside counsel to the Village.

Chevy Chase Village is an incorporated municipal government in Montgomery County, Maryland. It is adjacent to the District of Columbia. The Village consists of 719 households with a population of approximately 1,950 residents. The Village has 27 employees and operates its own police department. The Village performs a number of public functions, including trash collection and recycling, street and sidewalk maintenance, leaf and snow removal, operation of a communications desk and implementation of a building code under the limited zoning authority granted by the Regional District Act (Md. Code Ann., Art. 28, Sec. 8-115.1 (2010 Repl. Vol.)). For outsourced projects and services, the Village has an extensive procurement ordinance. Interested candidates should (a) be familiar with federal, Maryland and Montgomery County laws and regulations applicable to municipal governments, (b) be knowledgeable about federal and state laws applicable to labor and employment relationships with municipal employees, and (c) have significant prior experience representing incorporated municipal governments in Maryland in a wide range of matters such as procurement contracts, land use regulations, civil litigation, law enforcement issues, legislative drafting and interpretation and other matters involving municipalities.

Any lawyers interested in being considered for the position should submit by September 30 their professional vitae, a description of their prior experience representing incorporated municipal governments in Maryland, the lawyer's proposed hourly rate (or proposed flat fee or other compensation arrangement), references, and, if the lawyer practices in a firm, any other information relating to the firm that the lawyer believes it would be helpful for the Village to have in considering the application (e.g., the names of other lawyers in the firm expected to work on Village matters, including their areas of specialization, experience and hourly rates) to: Michael L.
